Free NHL Pick: Florida Panthers at Carolina Hurricanes

by Thomas Jensen on Friday, April 4th, 2008

The Florida Panthers visit the Carolina Hurricanes. BetOnline.com has the Carolina Hurricanes -280 odds favorites against the Florida Panthers +230 with the over/under set at 5.5 goals.

The Hurricanes are battling for their playoff lives. A recent skid has allowed red-hot Washington to climb back into the division race. Carolina has dropped three of four, including Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Capitals. Worse yet, the Hurricanes are 0-11 with the man-advantage in their last two games. They've relied heavily on the power play this season, scoring the fourth-most goals. If Carolina can get things sorted out in that respect, it should be able to hold off Washington.

The Panthers, on the other hand, have mostly fallen apart since a hot start in March. Florida had lost three in a row before beating Atlanta 3-2 on Tuesday; it was only the second win in six games for the club. The offense disappeared during that stretch and only managed three total goals during the losing streak. It's no surprised their fortunes changed against the Thrashers after scoring on the power play; the Panthers hadn't scored with the man-advantage in three games. Thanks to the slump, Florida is merely jockeying for draft pick positioning.

Carolina leads the season series 5-2. Considering the Hurricanes are desperate while Florida has nothing to play for and that trend should continue. Get your Free NHL Pick!
