Free NHL Pick: New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia Flyers

by Thomas Jensen on Friday, April 4th, 2008

The Philadelphia Flyers are positioning for a Eastern Conference playoff birth when they host the New Jersey Devils. BetOnline.com has the Philadelphia Flyers -160 odds favorites against the New Jersey Devils +140 with the over/under set at 5 goals.

A punch-less offense crippled the Devils in late March, scoring just five goals during a five-game losing streak. The team has bounced back recently, though, winning its last two games. Tuesday's overtime win over the Islanders is still troubling considering the team needed a few extra minutes to muster to goals. At least Patrick Elias is showing signs of life, picking up five points in his last three games (including a goal and assist in the victory over New York). Not surprisingly, New Jersey is a solid 2-1 in that span.

It's been an up-and-down season for the Flyers, but they've played well as of late. Saturday's 4-3 shoot out victory over the Islanders gives them five wins in their last six games. Philadelphia has been getting by the skin of its teeth in that span; five of those contests were one-goal games. A win is a win, though, which Philly needs in spades. A late meltdown could allow Washington to sneak up from behind and steal the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Devils have dominated the season series, leading 6-1. With Jersey looking sharper in recent days, the trend should continue. Get your Free NHL Pick in Now!
