The Washington Capitals look to continue to steam roll the Montreal Canadiens tonight, Wednesday April 21, as they face off in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarters. The Capitals won Game 3 5-1 thanks to goals from Boyd Gordon, Brooks Laich, Alexander Ovechkin, Eric Fehr and Matt Bradly. Goalie Simeon Varlamov stopped 26 of 27 shots and is 2-0 with a 2.00 GAA. They have outscored the Canadiens 14-9 and three of their last four meetings have gone into overtime. What’s even worse for the Canadiens is the Caps aren’t clicking on the powerplay. The Capitals have yet to score in 14 opportunities with the man advantage, but are still scoring five on five, against eighth-seeded Montreal. They haven't scored a power-play goal in five games, including their last two regular-season games. "If the power play gets going it's going to be better for us," Ovechkin said. "But I hope when we need it it's going to be working." Ovechkin has goals in each of the last two games and so does Eric Fehr. Backstrom has four goals and two assists in the series. The Capitals are 119-80 in the faceoff circle in the series and Gordon won 13 of 15 in just 12 minutes of ice time. He’ll see some more ice time tonight, especially on the powerplay.
The Canadiens lone scorer was Tomas Plekanec early in the third and they couldn’t muster up any offense. Goalie Jaroslav Halak was pulled after allowing three goals on 13 shots. Carey Price didn’t fare any better allowing two goals on 23 shots. It would appear the Montreal Canadiens will be counting on Carey Price to pull them even. Price wasn’t as good as Halak during the regular season, but he has success against the Caps. Goalie Carey Price played all four regular-season games against the Caps and posted a 2-1-1 record. He also has more size than Halak and that could come in handy in what has become a physical series. The Canadiens will probably make some lineup changes for Game 4. The most significant will be addition of Ryan O’Byrne on defence in place on Marc-Andre Bergeron. O’Byrne provides the Canadiens with a bigger body and a more physical presence. Bergeron will stay in the lineup as a forward so that he can be available for the power play, which has gone 3-for-12 in the series. The change means that Mathieu Darche will probably join Ben Maxwell ad Sergei Kostitsyn in the press box.
