2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Philadelphia Flyers vs Boston Bruins Game 7 Odds & Predictions

by Scott Burgess on Friday, May 14th, 2010

Its seventh heaven tonight, Friday May 14, as the Boston Bruins host the Philadelphia Flyers for a chance to advance to the Eastern Conference Final, where they battle against Montreal. The Flyers won Game 6, 2-1 as -135 home favs as the series sits knotted at 3-3. NHL oddsmakers at BODOG.com have the Bruins as -125 moneyline home favorites over the Flyers (+105) with the over/under set at 5 goals. The Flyers got the win with backup goalie Michael Leighton between the pipes, since Brian Boucher’s lower body injury in Game 5. Leighton made his first career start in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and finished with 30 saves after Mike Richards and Danny Briere scored goals in the first and second periods. Leighton played great in the third period making nine saves and would’ve had the shutout except for a Bruins goal with 60 seconds left. "We're blocking shots, we're doing everything for each other," Richards said. "We were helping each other out, talking and, even when (Boston) added a lot of clusters at our net, I thought we came back and kind of defended Leighton a lot. And when he needed to, he made the big saves." He’s going to have to be just as good as Game 6 and he needs his players to block shots at any expense. Philadelphia's Danny Briere leads the team with 4 goals and 8 points in the series. He has 6 goals, 13 points and a plus-1 rating in 11 postseason games this spring. The Flyers are the sixth team in NHL history to win Games 4, 5 and 6 of a playoff series after dropping the first three games. The Flyers are 7-6 all-time in Game 7s, winning their most recent one in the 2008 conference quarterfinals in Washington. The Bruins, who have lost their last three Game 7s, are 9-9 all-time.

The Bruins remain optimistic about advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 1992. The Bruins did exhibit a lot more passion and grit in Game 6 and goalie Tuukka Rask (25 saves) was phenomenal in defeat but he has yet to steal a game. "You know, it's not over until it's over," Rask said. "We just focused on the next game and wanted to get that fourth win when we were up 3-0. We won three straight, and now they won three straight, so it comes down to one game and it's going to be a huge game. I didn't think it was going to be (seven games), but anything can happen in the playoffs." The Bruins get to play at home, and home teams have won 80 of the 131 Game 7s in playoff history. But the visiting team has won the last four — and all three this season, including Montreal's win at Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Boston's Mark Recchi has 2 goals and 5 points in seven Game 7s. His points total and four wins are the most among players on either team. Boston captain Zdeno Chara has lost all four Game 7s in which he's played.
