The Washington Capitals were hoping to turn things around this season as last years NHL Picks hopes turned into a disaster when they completely fell apart down the stretch winning only four of their final 20 games. However, thus far on the season it hasn’t seem to have gotten any better as they sit at 13-18-0-2. They have seem to have heated up lately as they have won five of their last seven. They attempted to bolster up their defense with off season acquisitions of defensemen Josef Boumedienne Tom Poti. But that hasn’t seem to pan out either as they sit 23^rd giving up an average of 2.94 goals per game. There doesn’t seem to be much hope of a win tonight as SBGglobal.com has the Caps listed as a +240 money line underdog and +1.5/-120 on the puck line.

Last season the Detroit Red Wings once again won their division with a great blend of youth and veterans. This season, at least on the outset, there was concern that their veteran nucleus was just getting too old. It’s a long season and one that tends to take it’s toll physically, you would never know it this far as the veterans continue to win with Detroit posting an unbelievable 23-6-0-3 mark thus far. In fact, the Red Wings have won 8 of their last 9 overall. Goaltender, Dominik Hasak, has risen to the top as the Red Wings ranked 2^nd in the NHL in goals against allowing only 2.19 goals per game. Their offense hasn’t fallen asleep either as they rank 2^nd as well scoring an average of 3.41 goals per game.

All indications seem to point to a Detroit win tonight as they are 16-3 ATS after scoring 3 goals or more in 2 straight games this season. However, don’t run to the window real fast as Washington is 33-19 ATS in road games after having won 5 or 6 of their last 7 games since 1996.
