The Chicago Blackhawks rolls into today after winning last night in NHL Picks action when they host the Edmonton Oilers. Yesterday’s win put Chicago at 17-15-2 on the season overall and are 19th in overall points in the NHL. It was a tough win though as they had to rally from two goals down to win in overtime over Ottawa. The win was their second straight victory and their first away from home since beating Calgary on Nov. 22. The Blackhawks have had a horrible month of December as they have only won three times in nine games. They do have the luxury however of playing their final three games of 2007 at home. Chicago has been no slouch in scoring as they rank 8th in the NHL. It’s their defense that has been an issue as they are only 17th overall in goals against. Chicago will be looking for their third straight home win over Edmonton, and is 3-0-2 their L5 versus the Oilers at home. SBGglobal.com has the Blackhawks listed as a -145 favorite on the money line and -1.5/+185 on the puck line.
The Edmonton Oilers come into this contest struggling sitting at 16-17-3 overall and sit 26th in total points. In their last game the Oilers lost 3-1 at home to New Jersey and have now failed to earn at least one point in their last six games. The Oilers have done well on the road lately as they had won their last two road games and four of their last five away from home. Starting goaltender Dwayne Roloson didn’t play lat night and might not play today but overall that hasn’t produced much for the Oilers as they are 22nd in the NHL in goals against. Besides in their last game replacement tender Mathieu Garon made 30 saves Friday and is 4-1-0 with a 1.93 goals against average versus the Blackhawks. Their offense hasn’t done them many favors either as they are a lowly 28th in the league in scoring.
Some interesting trends in this one show that the Blackhawks seem to have problems with playing on no rest as they are 22-51-8 in their last 81 games playing on no rest. Edmonton hasn’t lit the world on fire either as they are only 8-20 in their last 28 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
