2010 Kentucky Derby Contenders: The 136th running of the Kentucky Derby will take place this Saturday, May 1st at the Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky. The first leg of the Triple Crown series is scheduled to get underway at 6:24pm ET on NBC. The current favorite among the 2010 Kentucky Derby Contenders at SPORTSBETTING.com is the Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman owned Lookin At Lucky.
Lookin At Lucky is trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, who also guided Silver Charm (1997) and Real Quiet (1998) to
Derby wins. Lucky has had an impressive lead up to Saturday's race winning the Cash Call Futurity last December as well as the Rebel Stakes in March before finishing third at the Santa Anita Derby earlier this month.
Lucky's pedigree is notable too as the colt was sired by Smart Strike, who also sired the great Curlin, and birthed by Private Feeling. He is brother to last year's fourth place Derby finisher, Papa Clem.
Jockey Garrett Gomez will have Lucky's mount this weekend. Gomez, who will be riding in his ninth Run for the Roses, had his best Kentucky Derby finish last year when he piloted Pioneerofthe Nile to a second place finish at Churchill Downs. The Arizona native also rode Rags to Riches to the 2007 Kentucky Oaks title.
Other favorites in Saturday's big race include Sidneys Candy (+400), winner of this year's Santa Anita Derby, Awesome Act (+800), and Ice Box (+1000).
