The 135th running of the Kentucky Derby will take place this Saturday, May 2nd at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The annual Run for the Roses is set to get underway at 6:00pm ET on NBC. The current favorite to win the first race of the Triple Crown is I Want Revenge.

2009 Kentucky Derby Contenders at Sportsbook.com has I Want Revenge, Dunkirk, Pioneerof the Nile, and Friesan Fire listed at the top four most favored horses to win this weekend's race.

I Want Revenge, the 3-year-old colt owned by David J. Lanzman and trained by Jeff Mullins, enters the Run for the Roses as a +250 moneyline favorite. He recorded a furlong time of 1:01.60 at Churchill Downs on April 21st, a time that ranked eighth out of the 19 horses entered in the Derby. However, the track conditions were not ideal that day as it had rained the day before.

I Want Revenge has an impressive pedigree as he was sired by Stephen Got Even and birthed by Argentinan mare, Meguial. Stephen Got Even, the grandson of former Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, had an impressive career, never finishing worse than third in seven starts. Meguial raced in both Argentina and the United States, placing in at least six events between the two countries.

The colt has won his last two events, the Wood Memorial at the Aqueduct on April 4th and the Gotham, also at the Aqueduct, on March 7th. He has shown a penchant for getting off to a good start and having the stamina to finish strong. In eight career races his average finish is 2.13; he has never finished worse than third in any event and he has earned a total of $624,000.

Nineteen year old Joe Talamo will serve as jockey for I Want Revenge this weekend, it will be his first Kentucky Derby. Talamo earned an Eclipse Award in 2007, which goes to the nation's top apprentice jockey. The Louisiana native has been a professional jockey for almost two years.
