2010 Kentucky Derby Entries: The 136th Run for the Roses will take place this Saturday, May 1st at Churchill Downs. This year's field features 20 horses vying for a first place run in the 1 1/4 mile race. The action is set to begin at 6:24pm ET on NBC. The favorite to win in Sportsbook.com's 2010 Kentucky Derby Entries is none other than the Bob Baffert trained Lookin At Lucky. The colt is presently listed at +200 moneyline odds to garner Baffert his fourth Kentucky Derby crown.
It remains to be seen how the favorites to win the 2010 Kentucky Derby, Lookin At Lucky (+200) and Sidney's Candy
(+400), fare this weekend, but they certainly did not perform well in the post draw. Lucky will start the race against the rail in Post 1 while Candy gets the last post in 20. Historically those positions have not done that well; however, they are not a death sentence. Big Brown won the 2008 Derby from the 20 post (the first horse to do it since 1929) and 18 horses have won the Derby from gate 1, including Triple Crown winners Sir Barton (1919) and Citation (1948).
Also in contention this Saturday is the Todd Pletcher trained filly Devil May Care. Devil May Care, which drew Post 11 for the Derby, is currently listed at +600 moneyline odds to win the 136th Run for the Roses.
Rounding out the top five are Awesome Act (+800) and Ice Box (+800). Awesome Act will be outside in Post 16 on Saturday while Ice Box will start next to favorite Lookin At Lucky in Post 2. The last horse to win the Kentucky Derby from gate 16 was Monarchos in 2001. Affirmed, the last horse to win the Triple Crown, was also the last colt to win the Run for the Roses from Post 2 (1978).
