n 48.44 and galloped out five-eighths in 1:01.15 for his final workout at Churchill Downs Tuesday morning. He trained with his regular training mate, Peace Town. Julian Leparoux was there for the workout and will ride Awesome Act in the Derby. Jockey Julien Leparoux said, “The work over a sloppy track was perfect and very smooth. It was a very nice work. He did it very easy. He went over the track very good. He loved it, so I won’t be scared about it.”
Awesome Act is all the buzz at Churchill Downs this week. He’s reportedly showed a huge improvement in his race and time since his arrival. Co-owner Tom Ludt said, “Awesome Act has done nothing but improve since he’s been at Churchill Downs. Knock on wood, but this horse keeps getting better and better. The horse is doing everything right.”
The British Based Awesome Act finished behind expected favorite Eskendereya in the Grade I Wood Memorial despite losing a shoe. Eskendereya was scratched due to an injury this past weekend and will not compete in the Derby. Saturday’s race has become a lot more interesting since Eskendereya made room for other contenders such as Awesome Act to win the 2010 Kentucky Derby.
