The 135th Kentucky Derby is set to take place this Saturday at the legendary Churchill Downs in Louisville. SBGglobal.com's 2009 Kentucky Derby Predictions are favoring the Stephen Got Even sired I Want Revenge at +300 moneyline odds.

If Dunkirk , who was a $3.7 million yearling purchase in 2007, wins the Run for the Roses on Saturday, he will be the first horse since Apollo in 1882 to have won the Derby despite racing as a two-year old. That ominous trend might scare some, but odds makers believe this colt might have enough to overcome 100 years of history.

Dunkirk has finished first twice in three career races, but took second place in his last outing, the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park. He placed behind the highly touted Quality Road in that event, but, sadly, will not get to compete against him this weekend as Quality Road is out of the Derby with a cracked hoof.

Dunkirk was sired by Unbridled Song, a grade 1 and 2 winner in his racing career and producer of many successful racers, including First Defence and 2008 Derby runner-up, Eight Belles. Unbridled Song's father, Unbridled, won the 1990 Kentucky Derby. The colt came out of dam Secret Status. Secret Status won the 2000 Kentucky Oaks and was sired by Belmont winner A.P. Indy.

Todd Pletcher, who serves as Dunkirk's trainer, has never won the Kentucky Derby, but he has produced a number of successful horses. He earned four consecutive Eclipse Awards as a trainer from 2004 -2007 and he had over $28.5 million in earnings in 2007.

Peru native Edgar Prado will be riding Dunkirk on Saturday. Prado is a Hall of Fame member and Eclipe Award winner with over 6000 career wins to his credit. He had more wins than any other jockey in the United States from 1997 to 1999 and he piloted Barbaro to a first place finish at the 2006 Run for the Roses.
