2010 Kentucky Derby Predictions: Awesome Act 8 to 1 Derby Odds: Online racebook SPORTSBETTING.com has listed the son of Awesome Again, Awesome Act, at 8 to 1 Derby odds for this Saturday's 136th Run for the Roses. The first leg of the Triple Crown series is scheduled to begin at 6:24pm ET at Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky.
Awesome Act finished third at the Grade 1 Wood Memorial earlier this month, but that has not deterred the optimism surrounding the colt. Prior to his final Derby tune-up, Act took first place at the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes, which was also ran at the Aqueduct in New York.
This horse also has an abundance of solid pedigree to suggest he may be a contender come tomorrow evening. His sire, Awesome Again, won the 1998 Breeder's Cup Classic, and his dam, Houdini's Honey, comes from Mr. Prospector. Mr. Prospector has produced Derby, Preakness, and Belmont winners in Fusaichi Pegasus, Tank's Prospect, and Conquistador Cielo.
Awesome Act, which will begin the Derby from post 16, will be piloted by French jockey Julien Leparoux. Leparoux has had three other Derby mounts; his best finish at the Run for the Roses was a fifth place run aboard Sedgefield in 2006.
Leparoux was impressed with Awesome Act's workouts earlier this week in what amounted to less than great track conditions at Churchill Downs. With rain forecasted for tomorrow's race, the jockey took comfort in the solid training sessions.
"It was very nice work. He did it very easy," Leparoux said. "He loved it, so I won't be scared about it."
