Kentucky Derby 2010: The 136th Kentucky Derby is scheduled for this Saturday, May 1st at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Among the favorites is the Craig Family Trust owned Sidney's Candy. Online bookmaker SPORTSBETTING.com presently has Sidney's Candy listed at 5 to 1 Derby Odds, which is second only to Lookin At Lucky. The Run for the Roses is set to get underway at 6:24pm ET on NBC.
Sidney's Candy has drawn a good bit of attention heading into this weekend's first Triple Crown jewel as the colt has gone 
undefeated this year. Candy won the San Vincente in February, the San Felipe in March, and the Santa Anita Derby in April.
Sidney's Candy was sired by Candy Ride, which has produced a number of grade 1 and grade 3 stakes champions, included last year's fifth place Derby finisher, Chocolate Candy. Candy's dam, Fair Exchange, was sired by Storm Cat, whose offspring, Tabasco Cat, won the 1994 Preakness and Belmont Stakes.
Unfortunately for Sidney's Candy, the colt drew the far outside post (20) for the start of the Derby. Big Brown did win the Run for the Roses in 2008 from gate 20, but he was the first horse to accomplish that feat since 1929.
Twenty-year old jockey Joe Talamo will have Candy's mount tomorrow evening. Talamo has never jockeyed in the Derby, but he was scheduled to ride I Want Revenge last year before the horse was scratched the morning of the race.
