Kentucky Derby Favorites 2010: There is some difference of opinion among pundits if drawing Gate 1 in the Kentucky Derby is a good thing or not. This years Bodog.com race favorite at 7-to-2 odds, Lookin at Lucky , got the lucky draw. It's lucky in that its the shortest trip around the track. It's not a good draw if the horse gets caught up in traffic. The last horse to win from starting on the rail was Ferdinand in 1986.
Getting a high number draw can be difficult because the horse must run a greater distance. The second favorite at 6-to-1 odds, Sidney's Candy, got some bad luck drawing Gate 20. Sidney's Candy is not the only favorite on the outside looking in either.
Awesome Act, the third best lined horse will start near the outside at No. 16. Bodog.com race book has Awesome Act 9-to-1 odds. Ice Box will be coming out of Gate 2 as a 10-to-1 odds favorite.
Regardless of the draw, this Kentucky Derby looks like it will be a wide open race.
