2010 Kentucky Derby Picks: Jackson Bend 14 to 1 Derby Odds: Kentucky Derby Picks experts at online racebook Bodog.com have the Nick Zito trained horse Jackson Bend, listed at 14 to 1 Derby odds coming into today's race. The challenge for the 136th Run for the Roses title is scheduled to begin at 6:24pm ET at Churchill Downs in Louisville; it will be broadcast live on NBC.
Jackson Bend has not received a great deal of hype coming into the Derby, but the colt does have an impressive
record. Bend finished second at the Holy Bull Stakes, Fountain of Youth, and Wood Memorial this year and he has never finished worse than second in nine career races. Jackson Bend garnered five wins last year, starting with his Maiden Special Weight in June.
Bend's sire, Hear No Evil, has produced mostly sprinters, but his dam, Sexy Stockings, comes from a distance pedigree, having been sired by 1994 Preakness and Belmont winner Tabasco Cat. Despite the small success of Jackson Bend's parents, two time Derby winning trainer (Strike the Gold, Go For Gin), Nick Zito, likes the colt's chances in a watered down field.
"This is a very compact field," Zito said. "There are no Big Browns in here."
Veteran jockey and 2005 Derby winner Mike Smith will have Jackson Bend's mount later today. Smith, a multiple Eclipse Award winner, is most famous for having been aboard Zenyatta in all 14 of her wins.
