Kentucky Derby 2010: Line of David 17 to 1 Derby Odds: The Lion Heart sired colt, Line of David, is presently listed at 17 to 1 Derby odds at online racebook SBGglobal.com. The horse will begin the first jewel of the Triple Crown series from post position five later this afternoon. The 136th Run for the Roses is set to get underway at 6:25pm ET at the legendary Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky.
It took Line of David four attempts to finally break his maiden, but the colt has not lost since doing it February of this year.
David won an allowance race in early March to follow up and he scored a huge upset at the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby last month, beating fellow Derby entrants Super Saver, Dublin, and Noble's Promise. Despite that feat, all three of those horses are favored to finish ahead of him in today's Derby.
Line of David's trainer, John Sadler, will be working his first Derby since managing Corby in 1993. Sadler, who is also in charge of Sidney's Candy, hopes his horse can make the most of the gate five draw.
"It'a a good post," Sadler said. "I like it for him. We'll try to take advantage of it."
Riding Line of David today will be Peruvian jockey Rafael Bejarano. Bejarano has been atop five other Derby contenders, but his best result at the Run for the Roses came last year when Papa Clem took fifth place.
