Kentucky Derby 2010: Super Saver 12 to 1 Derby Odds: A fourth Todd Pletcher trained horse will make his presence known in Louisville today as Super Saver challenges for the 136th Kentucky Derby title. The horse is currently listed at 12 to 1 Derby odds at online bookmaker Bodog.com. Find out if this bay colt has what it takes to beat what is considered a weak 20 horse field.
Super Saver has just one win to his credit outside of his Maiden Special Weight; the colt took first place in last
November's Kentucky Jockey Club. Since then he has finished third and second, respectively, in the Tampa Bay Derby and Arkansas Derby.
Because Super Saver is trained by Pletcher and was sired by Maria's Mon (produced Derby winner Monarchos), many are viewing the horse as a threat to challenge in today's running. Super Saver also has a distance pedigree as his dam, Supercharger, was sired by Belmont winner A.P. Indy.
Super Saver drew post 4 earlier this week, which should work nicely for what veteran jockey and two time Derby winner Calvin Borel likes to do. Borel rode Street Sense to the title in 2007 from gate 7 and he guided Mine That Bird to last year's Derby win from gate 8.
Pletcher liked the draw, especially given Borel's hankering to get inside.
"Perfect. We've got Calvin up, so you know where he's going to want to go," Pletcher said.
