The odds makers at Bodog.com have listed Chocolate Candy at 12 to 1 odds to win the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. Chocolate Candy is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer and will be ridden by jockey Mike Smith out of the 11th post. Point-Spreads.com is giving out Chocolate Candy as our Free Derby Pick and feel the three year old is a great value bet at 12 to 1 odds (Bet $100 to win $1,200).
“Chocolate Candy has received plenty of attention throughout the Derby trail but I still don't get it,” stated VegasInsider.com
Kentucky Derby Picks Expert Anthony Stabile when asked to comment on Chocolate Candy as a potential Free Derby Pick. “Someone had to be second in the S.A. Derby last out and Hollendorfer has done a great job in avoiding the big boys for the most part in order to get him here.”
The Kentucky Derby will air live on NBC from Churchill Downs at 4:00 PM EST on May 2nd, 2009.
“The sleeper could be 20-1 CHOCOLATE CANDY,” stated Derby Picks Expert Ron Rippey in his Free Derby Pick article on NJ.com. “Who may have been too close to the pace behind Pioneerof the Nile in the Santa Anita Derby. Patient Mike Smith gets the ride and a fast pace could set up his proven closing kick.”
Ron Rippey attained national prominence in 2006 when he won the NTRA/DRF National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas along with the $250,000 first prize. He reached the nationals finals by advancing past a field of more than 100,000 handicappers, who had to win or place among the top two or three finishers in 92 tournaments held throughout the country.
