 Pioneerof the Nile capture the Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita making him one of the favorites for the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby. The 2009 Derby odds makers at internet racebook Bodog.com have Pioneerof the Nile listed at 9 to 2 odds.“The fact that Gomez stayed ere speaks volumes as the sky is the limit when it comes to the talent possessed by a horse like Dunkirk,” stated VegasInsider.com Horse Racing Expert Anthony Stabile when asked to comment on the 2009 Derby odds on Pioneerof the Nile. “I'm sure the fact that he's won four graded stakes in a row on this horse helped, but I'm sure it was still a gut-wrenching decision. Post shouldn't hurt as he's raced a few times with success in his career.” Pioneerof the Nile will be ridden by jockey Garrett Gomez from the 16th post and was trained by Bob Baffert. “Pioneerof the Nile is a beautiful mover in the mornings and dead game in the afternoons, winning four straight stakes since being transferred to Bob Baffert last fall, and he's eligible to keep moving forward in his first dirt start,” stated Kentucky Derby Odds Analyst James Scully. “He'll need to do just that from a Speed rating perspective (his career-best is a 98), but I'm not putting too much stock in the synthetics numbers. Baffert was recently elected to Thoroughbred racing's Hall of Fame, and he can keep the celebration going with a fourth Derby winner.” Stabile continued: “The fact that he's never raced on dirt is of course the biggest concern but he is the lone multiple G1 stakes winner in the field and they say the good ones can handle any surface.
