2010 Kentucky Derby Results: The 136th Run for the Roses concluded yesterday with a familiar face atop the winning horse. Louisiana jockey Calvin Borel secured his third Derby win in the last four years after guiding Super Saver, which was listed at 12 to 1 betting odds at online racebook Sportsbook.com, to a first place finish. While the scene might have felt familiar to Borel, it was anything but for highly regarded trainer Todd Pletcher. Pletcher watched 24 entrants come and go without a Derby title until Super Saver's winning run yesterday afternoon.
Calvin Borel employed his usual Churchill Downs tack in the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby, breaking from the 
four post to the rail as soon as possible and then keeping his colt there almost throughout. Once ahead, the always emotional jockey indicated he felt the race was all but won.
"I knew nothing was going to run him down," Borel said, despite a hard charge from Ice Box down the home stretch.
Pletcher, who had come close to Derby wins with Bluegrass Cat (2006) and Invisible Ink (2001), was happy to have Borel on his side for once, especially given his history at the famed Louisville course.
"Calvin Borel is a great rider anywhere he goes, but at Churchill Downs he's even five lengths better," Pletcher said.
Super Saver, the son of Maria's Mon and Supercharger, had never won a Grade 1 stakes race until yesterday; however, the huge win did mark the third victory in seven career starts for the WinStar Farm's horse.
With Borel on the mount and a pedigree that includes former Belmont winner A.P. Indy, Super Saver figures to at least have a shot at doing what no horse has done since Affirmed in 1978.
The next leg of the Triple Crown, The Preakness Stakes, will take place on May 15th at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland. Sportsbook.com currently has the moneyline odds on Super Saver not completing the Triple Crown at -500.
