Mucho Macho Man is a three-year old thoroughbred colt that has the potential to win today’s run for the roses, the 2011 Kentucky Derby. He was a top pick by sharps to win the Louisiana Derby in late March but threw a shoe coming out of the gate still managing a third place show behind current derby entries, Pants on Fire and Nehro.
Mucho Macho Man, trained by Kathy Ritvo was the class of the field at Louisiana and could surprise a few folks today. There is some doubt over his age; will not turn three years old until June.
Owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Mucho Macho Man, son of Macho Uno is coming off at 12-to-1 odds, as of Saturday morning, for the derby. The colt scored a G-2 victory in the $350,000 Risen Star Stakes, Feb. 19, also at Fairgrounds Race Course (New Orleans) before his run in the $1-million Louisiana Derby March 26.
Saturday's Kentucky Derby Line lists Mucho Macho Man at 12-to-1.
Jamaican born, 25 year old, Rajiv Maragh, who rode Mucho Macho Man in Risen Star Stakes and the Louisiana Derby, will be the mount for today’s Kentucky Derby. This will be Maragh’s first ride in any Triple Crown event.
There is some question if Mucho Macho Man has the stamina to run 1 1/8 mile. I think he does and probably would be good up to 1 1/2. I am sure he beats Pants on Fire, and Nehro in the Louisiana Derby with four shoes, and what he showed in the Risen Star should be the blueprint as to what he will do to today's derby field. Dialed-In will not get to him, and Nehro, who he's once defeated, and all the other pretenders too. Like in the Louisiana Derby, Mucho Macho Man is my Kentucky Derby Predictions winner.
