Preakness 2010 Post Positions, Entries, Field & Contenders: The 135th running of the Preakness Stakes is set for this Saturday, May 15th at the Pimlico Racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland. The race will be broadcast live on NBC at 4:30pm ET. The Preakness, which is the shortest of the Triple Crown races at 1 3/16 miles, will feature a 12 horse field this year after injuries forced Hurricane Ike and Impazible out of competition. The forecast is calling for rain through Friday in the Baltimore area, but Saturday is suppose to be precipitation free. Still, the track at Pimlico is bound to be a little moist, which could play right into the hands of jockey Calvin Borel and his Todd Pletcher trained colt, Super Saver. Saver navigated the slop at Churchill Downs with relative ease, beating the field by 2.5 lengths.
Post draw may matter least to Borel, who guided Rachel Alexandra to the 2009 Preakness title from the far outside. Obviously the Cajun jockey prefers the rail, so he is comfortable just about anywhere.
Lookin At Lucky, the favorite going into the Derby, has finished first in six of his nine career starts. After an unlucky rail draw at Churchill, the colt still turned in a respectable sixth place showing. Lucky, which is also trained by Pletcher, should be a factor coming out of the seven hole.
The favorite among the horses that did not run in the Derby is the Stephen Got Even sired colt Schoolyard Dreams at +1200 moneyline odds. The horse last raced at the Wood Memorial in early April where it placed fourth.
Rounding out the field are Pleasant Prince, First Dude, Caracortado, Aikenite, Yawanna Twist, and Northern Giant.
