2009 Preakness Prop Bets

by Matt Foust on Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

The entry of filly Rachel Alexandra has changed the entire scene of the 2009 Preakness Stakes. Not only is the Medaglia d'Oro sired horse the favorite to win the race, she has taken the Derby winner's jockey. Calvin Borel, who was atop Alexandra two weekends ago at the Kentucky Oaks and who rode Mine That Bird to the Derby win, will serve as Rachel's jockey at the Run for the Black Eyed Susans.2009 Preakness Prop Bets

2009 Preakness Prop Bets at Bodog.com have taken advantage of the Jess Jackson owned fillys entry into the race by providing bettors a host of wagering opportunities.

Alexandra, according to just about everyone in the know, is a once in a generation type horse with the kind of record that scares competitors away. Her possible admission into the Preakness prompted talk from the owners of Mine That Bird and Pionnerof the Nile that they would insert additional Triple Crown nominated horses into the race just to keep Rachel Alexandra out.

Hull trainer Dale Romans, who elected to hold his trainee out of the event, told the Preakness.com why the filly is so special.

"She changes the dynamics of the race," Romans said. "She's true speed that keeps on going. She's real quality."

The fact that she is favored is, perhaps, the biggest indicator of what she is capable of doing on a race track. The last female to win the Preakness Stakes was Nellie Morse back in 1924. If Alexandra is able to edge out the boys, she will become just the fifth filly to pull off a Preakness win.

Her speed is hard to ignore and her tandem with jockey Calvin Borel has been an unbeatable force. Alexandra has won five straight races, all of them with Borel at the command. Other than her first race, the Maiden Weight Special at Churchill Downs in May of 2008 (6th place at 4.5 Furlongs), she has never finished worse than second.

2009 Preakness Prop Bets currently have the filly listed as a -250 favorite in a head to head matchup with Mine That Bird.
