Hurricane Ike Out of 2010 Preakness Stakes: Super Saver’s toughest competition, Hurricane Ike, is out of the Preakness Stakes due to an injury. Online racebook SPORTSBOOK.com has posted horse racing betting odds to win the 2010 Preakness Stakes.
A decision was made yesterday the Hurricane Ike’s injury to his left hind leg would keep him out of the 2010 Preakness Stakes. He was not flown to Baltimore yesterday to join the other contenders. Hurricane Ike’s trainer made it clear that the injury will not affect the colt’s long-term career. “My horse isn't so fine,” trainer John Sadler said. “This is pretty fresh, but it looks similar to the problem he had at Oak Tree. This is extremely disappointing," Sadler said. "It's disappointing, but what can you do? Sometimes they don't cooperate. Hopefully, we'll get him into some big races later this year."
Owner Ike Thrash said he knew something was wrong with his racehorse early yesterday morning. “I had three calls before I woke up,” Thrash said. “I figured it was not good news. They said he was favoring his hind leg. After he worked out the other day, he was limping around the barn a little this morning. He won’t be able to run three or four days from now. It’s like his upper hind end, like a pulled muscle. It’s not major, but it’s enough not to run.”
Most speculate that Super Saver, with +200 odds of winning the Preakness Stakes, will definitely take the Triple Crown with Hurricane Ike out of his way.
Saturday, May 15th, at Pimlico Racetrack the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes will take place in Baltimore, Maryland.
