Preakness Bets at online bookmaker Bodog.com have Musket Man, who finished third at the Kentucky Derby two weekends ago, listed at 10 to 1 odds to win the Preakness Stakes. The horse, which is trained by 42 year old Derek Ryan, has five wins in seven career races. He won the Illinois Derby prior to his third place showing at Churchill Downs.

Musket Man will start the Preakness from the three post tomorrow afternoon and Ryan seems to be fine with that draw.

“It doesn’t really matter much to us. We’d be happy with anything from 1-8” Ryan said. “We just need a decent pace in front of us, and we should get one in this field.”    

The native of Ireland tends to think that position and strategy get thrown out the window once the gates burst open. He is relying on jockey Eibar Coa to handle things once the mud really starts flying.

"I will leave it up to Coa," Ryan said. "He has ridden him once and worked him twice. With the better riders, like the ones we have here, they know what to do. All I'll do is wish him good luck."

Anthony Stabile, Preakness Bets expert at VegasInsider.com, feels that Musket Man’s hard run at the Derby may be to his detriment this weekend, regardless of what Coa can do.

“[Musket Man was] one of a few that had a clean trip in the Derby until he was involved in a deep stretch bumping incident” Stabile said. “[He was] also one of a handful that actually ran his race. Coming back in just two weeks might be asking a bit much of him, or any of the others that were in the same boat he was.”

The 134^th running of the Preakness Stakes is slated for Saturday, May 16^th at 4:30pm ET. The event will be broadcast live by NBC from Pimlico Race Course, the official home of the annual race.
