2010 Preakness Stakes: First Dude 20 to 1 Preakness Odds: Three-year old colt First Dude will be looking for the second win of its career when it hits the track at Pimlico this afternoon. The horse last raced in early April at the Blue Grass Stakes so it should be fresh for the 1 3/16 mile Preakness Stakes. Preakness Odds at online racebook SPORTSBETTING.com have First Dude listed at 20 to 1 odds to win the second leg of the Triple Crown series.
First Dude took third place at the Grade I Blue Grass Stakes on April 10th, giving the colt its fifth top three finish in six
career races. The Stephen Got Even sired horse finished out of the money prior to its run at Keeneland with a fifth place result at the Grade I Florida Derby. First Dude has competed in four races this year, all at 1 1/8 mile with the exception of his Maiden Special Weight in January (1 mile).
The Donald Dizney owned bay colt with start this afternoon's race from the 11 post. Trainer Dale Romans, who is also trains Pddy O'Prado, was pleased with the draw and is anxious for Dude to show what he can do on a big stage.
"Really, in a 12 horse field, there's not a terrible position to have," Romans said. "I didn't want to be in 1 or 12 if we could help it, and anything else we were going to be happy with."
"He's just coming into his own, and we're expecting a big breakthrough race from him sooner or later. If he's going to have it, I'd like it to be in a classic. I've always thought he was a special horse and that the extra distance of the classic races would help him."
Riding First Dude today will be 33 year old Venezuelan jockey Ramon Dominguez. Dominguez, who has been a top performer on the New York racing circuit, has competed in the Preakness seven times. His best finish at the event came in 2005 when he rode Scrappy-T to a second place result.
The 2010 Preakness Stakes will take place today at the Pimlico Racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland. The event will be televised live on NBC at 4:30pm ET.
