2010 Preakness Stakes Picks Yawanna Twist 30 to 1 Preakness Odds: The Rick Dutrow trained Yawanna Twist will chase Preakness glory today in just the fifth start of his career. The inexperienced colt will begin today's 135th Run for the Black-Eyed Susans from gate five. Preakness Odds at online racebook Bodog.com have the horse listed as a 30 to 1 longshot in this afternoon's Triple Crown event.
Yawanna Twist has been impressive in his brief career, winning his Maiden Special Weight in his first attempt and following i
t up with an Allowance victory and second place finishes at the Grade III Gotham Stakes and Illinois Derby.
In addition to his well thought of record, Yawanna Twist also possesses a reputable pedigree. His sire, Yonguska, was a Grade I stakes winner and his dam, Twist and Pop, was a winner of eight races.
Owner Jim Riccio downplayed Twist's gate five draw, which is just off center in the 12 horse field, indicating that the race will be more about the horses and less about the start.
"I agree with everybody else; I don't think it's really that big of a deal," Riccio said. "I think everybody drew OK. Obviously, it's more important in the Derby."
While Yawanna Twist may be inexperienced, his jockey this afternoon is not. Forty-two year old Edgar Prado has recorded three Triple Crown race victories in his career (Kentucky Derby, two Belmont titles) and he is also an Eclipse Award winner.
