Preakness 2010: Dublin 10 to 1 Preakness Odds: Trainer D. Wayne Lukas will attempt to capture his sixth Preakness Stakes title today with seventh place Derby finisher Dublin. Preakness Odds at online racebook Bodog.com have the Afleet Alex sired colt listed at 10 to 1 odds to win at Pimlico this afternoon. The 135th Run for the Black-Eyed Susans is scheduled to begin at 4:30pm ET on NBC.
Dublin had an impressive lead up to the 136th Kentucky Derby, finishing second at the Southwest Stakes (GIII), third at the
Rebel Stakes (GII), and third at the Arkansas Derby (GI) before finshing out of the money at Churchill Downs two weekends ago.
Despite his notable pedigree (Afleet Alex won both the Preakness and Belmont in 2005) and Hall of Fame training, Dublin has just two career victories in seven starts.
Lukas indicated the sloppy conditions at Churchill Downs were a huge setback for the colt; he is hoping that the far outside post draw (12) for today's race is not another one.
"I hate it (the post draw)," Lukas said. "There isn't much I can do about it, just accept what they gave us. It probably wouldn't be the one I'd pick [but] we're out there and we'll make the best of it."
Riding Dublin today will be Arizona born jockey Garrett Gomez. Gomez had the mount of Derby favorite Lookin At Lucky, but trainer Bob Baffert elected to make a change after the colt took sixth at Churchill Downs. Lukas quickly moved to get Gomez aboard Dublin for the Preakness, adding an interesting subplot to today's Run for the Black-Eyed Susans.
