Preakness Stakes 2010 Morning Line & Horse Racing Picks

by Thomas Jensen on Saturday, May 15th, 2010

The running of the 135th Preakness Stakes has finally arrived! Take a look at the Preakness Stakes 2010 morning line listed below, make your horse racing picks, sit back relax, crack open a cold one and enjoy watching the second leg of the ultra prestigious Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.

Also known as the ‘Run for the Black-Eyed Susans’, named after the states flower, is held annually at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. This year’s Preakness Stakes has a post time of 6:12pm ET, with live coverage starting at 4:30pm ET on NBC.

Five colts will be returning from the Kentucky Derby which took place two weeks ago at Churchill Downs. All five start from at least the 6th gate beginning with Jackson Bend from the 6th post, Lookin Lucky has the 7th post, Super Saver 8th post, Paddy O’Prado 10th post and Dublin has the outer 12th post.

Here are my top horse racing picks based on the Preakness Stakes 2010 morning line:

Possible pacesetter Jackson Bend is my ultimate Preakness Stakes prediction. Owned by Robert V. LaPenta and Fred J. Brei and trained by the great Nick Zito, Jackson Bend is their only horse competing in the race. If Jackson Bend takes the open path and the lead, there is a chance no horse will catch him, not even Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver. In the Derby, Jackson Bend at one point was eleven lengths back, prior to that race he was never further back than four lengths. He is also unbeatable in many of his works, producing :46 half mile bullets constantly. Coming from the 6th post with jockey Mike E. Smith on the mount, Jackson Bend has odds to win at 12/1.

Third place Derby finisher Paddy O'Prado is a great Preakness Stakes pick with hall-of-fame jockey Kent Desormeaux on the mount. Right from the start of the race later today, Paddy O'Prado will take position near the lead. "You don't want to be very far back," part owner Jason Loutsch said, who believes Super Saver will run on or near the early lead. "That was the one horse I was looking at. I think he's the lead. If we both broke out and we just stay on the outside of him, I think we'll be fine." He is confident Paddy O'Prado will accomplish that coming from the 10th post.

Another great long-shot Preakness Stakes pick is Caracortado. Having plenty of rest, Caracortado which is Spanish for Scarface, has what it takes to compete with all the other three-year-old Preakness contenders. Having a 5-0-1 career record in seven starts, Caracortado definitely knows how to win. One of his flaws is that he has never raced outside the state of California. He will be running from the 9th post and has odds to win at 12/1.
