2009 Belmont Stakes Odds, Entries & Belmont Contenders at online bookmaker Bodog.com are favoring Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness Stakes runner-up Mine That Bird to win the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes this Saturday at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. MIne That Bird, presently listed at 5/6 odds to win the 2009 Belmont Stakes, pulled off the improbable by winning the 2009 Kentucky Derby at 50/1 odds, and he nearly followed that feat up by capturing first place at the Preakness on May 16th. However, Rachel Alexandra denied the three year old gelding a shot at the Triple Crown, crossing the finish line just before he could complete another furious come from behind win. Mine That Bird is the clear favorite among all the 2009 Belmont Stakes entries. Right now trainer Chip Woolley would settle for winning the third leg of the Triple Crown Series, which would give the Birdstone sired horse two of the big three races. If Mine That Bird can accomplish that, he would become the sixth horse this decade to do so (Point Given, War Emblem, Funny Cide, Smarty Jones, Afleet Alex). Mine That Bird will be under the control of jockey Calvin Borel in the Belmont. Borel guided Bird to his Derby win, but elected to ride Alexandra at the Preakness. The filly's absence from this weekend's race opened the door for the Cajun to get back on the gelding's saddle. Woolley likes what he has seen out of the horse and its jockey leading up to Saturday's big race. "I was thinking last week, he's probably training better than he did going into the Derby," Woolley said of the 2009 Belmont Stakes Odds, Entries & Belmont Contender. "He's really into it. Calvin got the work I wanted out of him this monring...they just looked like they were bread and butter." In addition to Mine That Bird, Belmont Stakes Odds experts at Bodog.com also like 11th place Derby finisher Dunkirk (7/2 Belmont odds) and the Lemon Drop Kid sired Charitable Man (3/1 odds) at 2009 Belmont Contenders. Dunkirk, who is trained by previous Belmont winner Todd Pletcher, broke his maiden in January at Gulfstream Park and took another first at the Allowance, also at Gulfstream, in February. He finished second at the Florida Derby (Gulfstream) in March before his Derby run. Charitable Man, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, has just one Grade 1 stakes race on his record (7th place at the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland in April), but he has won two Grade II stakes at the Belmont. His latest race was a victory at the Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park on May 9th. The 2009 Belmont Stakes will take place Saturday, June 6th at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The third leg of the Triple Crown Series will be broadcast live on ABC. Coverage on the 1.5 mile race is set to begin at 5:00pm ET.
