2009 Belmont Stakes Post Positions, Picks & Belmont Odds: Now that the 2009 Belmont Stakes Post Positions have been determined, online racebook BetUS.com has Mine That Bird listed as a -150 money line odds favorite in their 2009 Belmont Picks. Following the Derby winner is Charitable Man at +300 money line Belmont odds and Dunkirk at +400 money line Belmont odds. Almost everyone feels that the 1.5 mile Belmont will come down to one of the three favorites, but there are a number of quality horses in the field that are capable of posing a challenge in Saturday's race. One such horse is Chocolate Candy (+1000 money line odds), who finished fifth at the Kentucky Derby. Candy, whose mother was sired by 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, has practiced well this week in Elmont, breezing a half-mile in 50.25 seconds and will be running from the 1st Post Position at the 2009 Belmont Stakes. Chocolate Candy's exercise rider, Lindsay Molina, thinks the horse, which recorded two firsts and a second prior to his Derby run, will be in the mix come Saturday. "All I can say is he justs skips over this track," Molina said. "I'm very interested to see how this horse runs. If he runs the way he trains...he's going to be tough." Anthony Stabile, 2009 Belmont Stakes Picks expert at VegasInsider.com, thinks that Chocolate Candy will benefit from the extra length at the Belmont. "Chocolate Candy ran well to be fifth in the Derby, his conventional dirt debut and should relish the added distance of the Belmont," Stabile said. "If the weather cooperates, it will be his first run over a dry dirt track." Another likely contender is Summer Bird. Bird, who is listed at +1200 money line odds to win the 2009 Belmont Stakes, broke his maiden in March and placed third at the Arkansas Derby in April before finishing sixth at the Kentucky Derby. The colt, who was sired by Birdstone (Mine That Bird), will be mounted by three time Derby winning jockey, Kent Desormeaux. Desormeaux has been pleased with how the horse has practiced this week. "He breezed brilliantly," Desormeaux said of his 2009 Belmont Picks ride. "I think what impressed me the most about Summer Bird was his energy level. He came off the track happier than he went out, which is a great indication of a healthy, happy horse, as well as a fast one." The "Test of the Champion" will take place this Saturday, June 6th at Belmont Park. The final leg of the Triple Crown Series will be broadcast live on ABC starting at 5:00pm ET.
