The Belmont Stakes Experts at online racebook Bodog.com have 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird listed as a 7 to 5 Belmont odds favorite to win the 141st running of the event this Saturday, June 6th. The previously underestimated gelding will have his Derby jockey, Calvin Borel, on the mount for the 2009 Belmont Stakes 1.5 mile race. 
Mine That Bird, who drew the No. 8 post at the Derby and the No. 2 post at the Preakness, drew the No. 7 post for this weekend's Belmont Stakes race. That development did not seem to bother trainer Chip Woolley Jr. at all.
"The No. 7 is fine with me," Woolley said. "My horse is going to back out of it anyway, so it's not going to be a factor."
Woolley is referring to the gelding's slow start approach. In his Derby run, Mine That Bird stormed from the back of the field to win the race and he nearly did the same thing at the Preakness, but fell just short to Rachel Alexandra.
The now well-known Woolley foresees much the same thing happening at the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.
"If you watch Mine That Bird run, his stride is bigger than most horses," Woolley said of the Belmont Picks favorite. "He has a huge stride and gets over ground real easy…with his running style; we're going to have to let him run his race. But the good thing here is, when you start slowing the fractions down, if you let him run his race, he's going to move way up. If we can just be within 10 to 12 of them, I'm confident he'll have enough kick left."
Calvin Borel, who will be shooting for his own personal Triple Crown as he was aboard Rachel Alexandra at the Preakness, believes that the way Bird has practiced this week can only mean one thing come Saturday.
"He worked in :50 and out in 1:02, just like before the Derby. He is doing everything the same," Borel said. "We're gonna win, no questions asked."
The 141st running of the Belmont Stakes takes place this Saturday, June 6th at the Belmont Park race track in Elmont, New York. Coverage of the event will be provided by ABC starting at 5:00pm ET.
