Belmont Stakes 2009 Miner's Escape 15 to 1 Belmont Odds: The odds makers at internet racebook BetUS.com have the Robert V. LaPenta owned Miner's Escape listed at 15 to 1 Belmont Odds in this Saturday's Belmont Stakes 2009. Miner's Escape, who broke his maiden back in March at Gulfstream Park, drew the No. 9 post for the third leg of the Triple Crown. Miner's Escape, who did not run in the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness Stakes, has won his last two races. The Mineshaft sired colt followed up his initial victory with a first place run at the Federico Tesio Stakes at Pimlico on May, 2nd. Escape won the 1 1/8 miles event by 4.5 lengths. Nick Zito, the Hall of Fame trainer of Belmont Stakes winners Birdstone and Da'Tara, knows his horses (Brave Victory and Miner's Escape) will not be getting a lot of pre-Belmont hype, but he likes what the two colts bring to the race track this weekend. "They both have good chances. I think they are live long shots," Zito said. "They have had two good races in a row. I think they're going to run well. We've been lucky in this race, and hopefully everything will work out okay." Owner Robert LaPenta feels that his horse should be able to withstand the grueling 1.5 mile race at the Belmont and he is hoping that Miner's Escape can pull off the same kind of stunning victory that Da'Tara did for him in last year's Belmont. "Miner's Escape is improving and shouldn't have any problem with the distance," LaPenta said of the Belmont Stakes 2009 contender. "Hopefully we'll have a good day and pick up a piece of the pie. There's not a lot of pressure, and if the star's line up maybe we'll go back-to-back." Jose Lezcano will be aboard Miner's Escape in Saturday's run. The Panamanian native served as jockey for 287 winners last year.
