Belmont Stakes Odds Flying Private 15 to 1 Belmont Predictions: The Belmont Stakes Odds expets at online racebook Sportsbook.com have Belmont Predictions on the D. Wayne Lukas trained Flying Private listed as a 15 to 1 odds. The Fusaichi Pegasus sired colt finished a horrific 19th at the Derby, but rebounded nicely to score a fourth place finish at the Preakness Stakes. Flying Private will start Saturday's Belmont Stakes race from the No. 8 post.
Flying Private has not won a race since breaking his maiden at Saratoga in August of last year. However, he has garnered two second place finishes this year and Lukas believes the horse has the kind of pedigree to be a factor at the Belmont.
In addition to his father being a Derby winner, Flying Private's dam was sired by 1990 Derby winner Unbridled. Unbridled has sired numerous winners, including 2003 Belmont champion, Empire Maker.
"I think it takes a special horse (to win the Belmont)," Lukas said. "All of them run a mile-and-a-half, some take a little longer. The thing about it is, I think it's the style of horse, and of course there's a gut-check with the pedigree about the quarter-pole, too. [I] think [Flying Private fits] the mold, at least in my opinion, to be competitive."
French jockey Julien Leparoux will have Flying Private's mount in Saturday's race. Leparoux recorded 403 victories in 2006 and also won the Eclipse Award that year as an apprentice jockey. He will be participating in his second Belmont run this weekend; last year he piloted Anak Nakal to a third place finish in his Belmont debut.
Saturday's 141st running of the Belmont Stakes will be broadcast live on ABC. Coverage is set to begin at 5:00pm ET.
