The horse racing betting odds experts at internet racebook SBGglobal.com have the Lion Heart sired Brave Victory listed at 25 to 1 Belmont odds to win the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes. Brave Victory, who did not compete in either the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness, drew the 10th post for this weekend's race with is part of the reason why the horse racing betting odds experts posted such long odds. Brave Victory last raced at the Grade II Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park on May 9th. The three year old took third place at that event, finishing behind one of the favorites in this year's Belmont, Charitable Man, and second place runner Imperial Council. The Peter Pan Stakes marked Brave Victory's fourth run this year. He has first, fourth, seventh, and third place conculsions to his credit this season. Victory is trained by Hall of Famer Nick Zito. Zito's pupil, Da' Tara, won the Belmont last year and he also trained 2004 Belmont winner Birdstone, the father of 2009 Belmont entires Mine That Bird and Summer Bird. In addition to Brave Victory, Zito also has Miner's Escape set to run in Saturday's Triple Crown finale. Zito acknowledged that his horse might not be as quality as the top Belmont contenders, but he is not discounting Brave Victory's chances either. "Sometimes leading up to the Triple Crown can take a lot out of a horse. [Brave Victory] may have that in [his] favor," Zito said of the Belmont Picks longshot. "[He] might not be as good as the Mine That Birds or Charitable Mans, but on the other hand, [he] did not have the rigors of the Triple Crown (prep) races leading up to the Derby...who, knows, maybe lightning strikes twice." Jockey Rajiv Maragh will be handling Brave Victory on Saturday. The 23 year old Jamaican had 203 victories on the New York horse racing circuit last year. Stay tuned to ABC for the live broadcast of the 2009 Belmont Stakes. The race is scheduled to be run this Saturday, June 6th at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Coverage of the final jewel in the Triple Crown Series starts at 5:00pm ET. SBGglobal.com Horse Racing Betting: Brave Victory 25 to 1 Belmont Odds Mine That Bird -135 |
