2010 Belmont: Drosselmeyer 12 to 1 Belmont Odds: The WinStar Farm colt Drosselmeyer will make a run at Triple Crown glory later today when he tackles the 1 1/2 miles track at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The 2010 Belmont is scheduled to begin at 6:32pm ET on ABC. Sportsbook.com has Drosselmeyer listed at 12 to 1 Belmont Odds, making the colt a middle of the pack prospect in the 12 horse field.
Drosselmeyer, another Belmont racer that did not run in the Derby or Preakness, has performed well coming into today's
race, despite having just two wins to his credit. The chestnut colt won an Allowance race in January and followed that up with a fourth place run in the G2 Risen Star Stakes (Feb.), a third place finish at G2 Louisiana Derby (March), and a second place showing at the G2 Dwyer (May).
Drosselmeyer, which is trained by William Mott, was sired by Distorted Humor and came out of Golden Ballet. Distorted Humor also produced 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide. Funny Cide missed the Triple Crown at the Belmont with a solid third place finish.
Drosselmeyer, which broke his maiden last November, will be jockeyed by Hall of Famer Mike Smith. Smith, who hails from New Mexico, has victories in the Kentucky Derby (2005 Giacomo) and Preakness (1993 Prairie Bayou) as well as seven Breeders' Cup titles. Smith's best finish at the Belmont came in 1990 when he placed second aboard Thirty Six Red. He has not had a Belmont mount since taking third on Tiago in 2007.
