Breeders Cup Predictions Quality Road 12 to 1 Breeders Cup Odds: The 2009 Breeders Cup Classic will take place this Saturday at 6:45pm ET at the Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The 1 1/4 mile race features a field of 13 horses vying for a $5 million dollar purse. Quality Road, the favorite to win the Kentucky Derby until being sidelined with a cracked hoof, is presently listed at 12 to 1 odds at online racebook SBGglobal.com to win the prestigious event.  

Quality Road, who will starts the Classic from the No. 12 post, was the most celebrated horse of the early race season, scoring a second place finish and two first place runs at Gulfstream Park in Florida before the Kentucky Derby. He was made the early favorite in the Run for the Roses after winning the Florida Derby in late March, but a cracked right hoof led to him missing the entire Triple Crown Series.

The Todd Pletcher trained stallion resumed racing in August and has garnered a first, second, and third place finish in three races. In his latest run, Quality Road finished second to Summer Bird in the Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes at Belmont Park on October 3rd. 

"I think he is coming up to the race really well," Pletcher said. "He's had a good series of prep races, and I thought he galloped over the track really well [Thursday] morning."

Jockey John Velaquez will have the mount of the Elusive Quality sired horse (also sired Smarty Jones, the 2004 Derby and Preakness winner) in tomorrow's race. The 37 year old Velaquez has an abundance of experience in Breeders Cup racing, recording 78 starts in the event. Velaquez, who road the Pletcher trained Rags to Riches to the 2007 Belmont crown, has seven Breeders Cup wins to his credit.
