Breeders Cup 2009 at online racebook SBGglobal.com has Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird listed at 15 to 1 odds to take the top spot in this evening's Breeders' Cup Classic. The three year old gelding has had an up and down year, but still has the kind of ability in a 1 1/4 mile race to pull off the upset. Tune in this evening to see if this little horse can shock the horse racing community once again. Mine That Bird, which will be racing out of the No. 1 post tonight, took the world by storm earlier this year when he won the Since the Preakness, Mine That Bird has gotten steadily worse, taking third at the Belmont, third at the Grade II West Virginia Derby in August, and sixth at the Goodwood Stakes in October at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita. "I was pretty down after Goodwood and I think Calvin (Borel) felt the same way," said Mine That Bird trainer "Chip" Woolley, Jr. "But when you analyze the race, you see that the fractions were just too slow and he was too far back. He still may be further back, but they will be going a lot faster this time. And, it's an eighth of an mile further, which is key for this horse." Bird will once again be ridden by Borel, who turns 43 years old today. The Cajun jockey has nine career Breeders Cup starts in which he has recorded one first place finish and one third place run. Borel's lone Breeders Cup victory came in 2006 when he rode Street Sense to first place in the Juvenile race. The pair would go onto win the Kentucky Derby in May of 2007. Mine That Bird will be vying to become just the fifth Kentucky Derby winner to also win the Breeders Cup Classic. The last horse to do it was Unbridled in 1990. The 26th annual Breeders' Cup Classic is set to get underway at 6:45pm ET at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The race will be broadcast live on ESPN.
