Breeders Cup Bets experts at online bookmaker Sportsbook.com have the Tale of the Cat sired Gio Ponti listed at 12 to 1 odds to win the 2009 Breeders Cup Classic. The one and one-quarter mile race, which will take place at 6:45pm ET this evening at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, features 13 horses ages three and up vying for a $5 million purse. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN. Gio Ponti comes into tonight's race having won four Grade I stakes races this season. The four year old colt has been "He's a very good horse. This is the best horse I've ever trained," said Clement. "Of course he has done so well on the grass and the question mark is the surface. But he has been able to overcome all year long and we have nothing to lose by running in the Classic." Gio Ponti has raced at Santa Anita twice this season with mixed results. He finished fifth in the Grade II Strub Stakes in February, but rebounded with a first place run in the Grade I Frank E. Kilroe Mile in March. Gio reeled off three straight wins after that before taking second place in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational Stakes at Belmont last month. Venezuelan jockey Ramon Dominguez will have Gio Ponti's mount in this evening's race. The 32 year old has 20 career Breeders' Cup starts, recording one win, three second place finishes and three third place runs. His win came in the 2004 Turf on Better Talk Now.
