The horse is presently listed at 2 to 1 odds to win this evening's capstone event. The race is scheduled to get underway at 6:45pm ET at the Oak Tree racetrack at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. Rip Van Winkle comes into this weekend's festivities having five 2009 races to his credit. The three year old had little Trainer Aidan O'Brien certainly has high hopes for the horse, calling him the best he has ever entered at the Breeders' Cup. "There's no doubt that this is a very special horse and we haven't come here with a horse of this caliber before," O'Brien said. Irish jockey Johnny Murtagh will have Rip Van Winkle's mount in tonight's race. The 37 year old already has two Breeders' Cup wins to his credit, the 2000 Turf run aboard Kalanisi and the 1995 Mile on Ridgewood Pearl. His two wins, coupled with his earnings of over $3.5 million, are fourth best among European born riders at the Breeders' Cup.
