The 2009 Belmont Stakes results are official and Mine That Bird stable mate and half brother Summer Bird won the 1.5 mile race at Belmont Park coming from the 4th position at the 3/4 pole to take the title. Summer Bird hit the final stretch with a surge of speed to take the win, giving horse racing bettors that picked Summer Bird to win a nice payday with a 2009 Belmont Stakes payout amount of 11 to 1 odds ($1,100 won for every $100 bet).
Summer Bird finished 2 3/4 lengths ahead of 2nd place finisher Dunkirk. Calvin Borel was denied the jockey Triple Crown but finished in the money in 3rd. Charitable Man came in 4th. D. Wayne Lukas was going for his 5th Belmont, but came up short but his long shot Luv Gov did finish in 5th place.
Kent Desormeaux was hot on race day winning three consecutive on the under-card at Belmont earlier in the day and redeemed his 2008 Belmont race with the win on Summer Bird. In 2008, Desormeaux was forced to pull up Big Brown in the final turn denying the stud the Triple Crown. The win was Desormeaux’s first Belmont Stakes victory.
