The Chicago Bears will travel to Indianapolis this weekend to take on the Colts in a rematch of Super Bowl XLI. The game will be televised Sunday night on NBC and it will mark the debut Lucas Oil Stadium. NFL Week 1 Picks at BetUS.com have the Colts as a big -9.5 home favorite and the game total at 44. Indianapolis looked the part of defending Super Bowl champion for most of the 2007 season. They finished 13-3 but were overshadowed by the Patriots quest for history. The Colts were ousted from the playoffs at home by a game Chargers squad and have probably been itching for the 2008 season to kick off since the conclusion of that contest. The Colts return almost all of last year's starters and they should again be a formidable force in the AFC. They are starting to show a little age, but that should not keep Peyton Manning and company from posting big numbers this season. Their defense may actually be the strength of the team entering 2008 as they held teams to just 16.4 points per game last year. The Bears finished a disappointing 7-9 last season and they have a number of question marks entering 2008. They gutted a non-productive offense this off-season but they did not address the quarterback position which has been a weak point for a few seasons now. They return just six starters from last year's group, but fourth year man, Kyle Orton, has been named the starting quarterback. Orton will be without the team's leading receivers from 2007, Muhsin Muhammad and Bernard Berrian. Key Matchup: The Bears offense, if they are to have any chance at all in this game, will need to find some way to stay on the field. Their best chance is to run right at the Colts defense with new addition Kevin Jones. That will not be an easy assignment against a team that allowed just 107 yards per game on the ground, but it will slow the game down and allow the Bears defense to rest. NFL Week 1 Trend: The Colts are 6-2-1 ATS the last five years as a home favorite in September games. BetUS.com's NFL Week 1 Picks for the Bears vs Colts: Bears +9.5 (-110), Over 44 (-110), +420 (Money line) Colts -9.5 (-110), Under 44 (-110), -520 (Money line) Get on board for an entire season of NFL Picks; we are prepped and ready to storm through the 2008 NFL schedule. The Arizona Cardinals will see a familiar foe this Sunday when they kick off their 2008 season, the San Francisco 49ers. Not only are the two teams NFC West rivals, this will be the third time in a row that they have played each other in the season opener. The reunion begins at 4:15pm ET on Fox. NFL Week 1 predicitions at SBGglobal.com have Arizona as a -2.5 road favorite. The Cardinals started to look like a legitimate playoff team last season under first year Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt. While they did not make it into the post-season, they did garner eight wins, their highest totals since 1998. Cardinal fans are expecting this year's team to make a playoff appearance and with the talent on the roster, that would seem to be a legitimate prospect. Veteran quarterback Kurt Warner, who beat out former first round pick Matt Leinert, will be leading an offense that put up 25.3 points per game in 2007. San Francisco had a hugely disappointing 2007, going 5-11 and failing to meet the post-season expectations that many had for them entering the season. The offense floundered without Norv Turner calling the shots and the defense did not perform well as they were on the field entirely too long in the majority of the team's games. The team hired Mike Martz to run the offense this year, and while he will probably improve the unit's production, it is uncertain how much his pass happy approach will help the defense. Key Matchup: Last year the 49ers offensive line gave up an offensive 55 sacks. They will be facing a Cardinal defense that recorded 36. The home crowd will reduce the noise factor, but the o-line will need to keep the heat off of new quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan if he is to have a successful debut. NFL Week 1 Trend: The Over is 4-1 in Arizona's last five on the road versus an NFC West opponent. SBGglobal.com's NFL Week 1 Predictions for the Cardinals vs 49ers: Cardinals -2.5 (-110), Over 42 (-110), -145 (Money line) 49ers +2.5 (-110), Under 42 (-110), +125 (Money line) Get on board for an entire season of NFL Picks; we are prepped and ready to storm through the 2008 NFL schedule. Get your popcorn ready as the Dallas Cowboys get set to kickoff their season, Sunday September 7, against the Cleveland Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Cowboys are looking for a third consecutive playoff berth, but this time with a better finish. NFL Oddsmakers at Bookmaker.com have the Dallas Cowboys as -5 ½ point favorites over the Cleveland Browns with the over/under set at 49 points. Get your NFL Pick: Dallas Cowboys vs Cleveland Browns in now at Bookmaker.com
The Dallas Cowboys might have a long list of distractions ahead of them this year. First you have WR Terrell Owens big mouth, who loves beak off in front of the cameras, then there’s QB Tony Romo’s ditsy girlfriend and the paparazzi that follow them where ever they go, then there’s convicted felon Adam "Pacman" Jones. But dispite all the distractions, they have a stacked team with talented players. Terrell Owens was fifth in the league with 1,355 receiving yards and third with 15 touchdowns last season. TE Jason Witten was the Cowboys most consistant player last year, he is also one of 13 Pro Bowl selections back from last year. The Cowboys had great offense last season; they ranked third in the league with 365.7 total yards per game, and second with 455 points scored en route to the top seed in the NFC. Tony Romo was third in the league with 4,211 passing yards and second with 36 touchdowns in 2007.Their defense was just as good, they held their opponents to an average of 307.6 yards, ninth-fewest in the NFL.
The Cleveland Browns had their best year after winning 10 games, their best since 1994, but failed to make the playoffs. The biggest reason for their winning record was their offense, QB Derek Anderson passed for 3,787 yards and 29 TDs. They finished ranked eighth on offense with 351 yards per game and 402 total points. Andersons favorite receiver is back, WR Braylon Edwards caught 80 passes for 1,289 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. Where they failed last year was on defense, which finished ranked 30th, after giving up 359.6 yards per game. They solidified their defense with the addition of nose tackle Shaun Rogers and defensive tackle Corey Williams in the offseason.
Recent Trends to Consider:
- Cowboys are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in September.
- Cowboys are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
- Browns are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 home games.
- Browns are 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 games in Week 1.
- Over is 13-4-2 in Cowboys last 19 road games.

The nationally televised late game Sunday on FOX has the Cleveland Browns hosting the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are one of the Super Bowl favorites this year while the Browns are the trendy pick by some to be a contender in the AFC. The Cowboys are coming off another playoff failure, as last season they went 13-3 in the regular season but lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants in the divisional playoffs. "We obviously didn't finish the season the way we wanted to last year.” Dallas wide receiver Terrell Owens said, “This is another opportunity, another year, to erase those negative thoughts." SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Cowboys on the Road.
NFL Betting Preview Dallas Cowboys at Cleveland Browns Sunday, 4:15 pm Eastern – FOX SBG Global Opening Line: Cowboys - 3 , Total 48.5 The Cowboys had the third ranked offense in the league last season at 365.7 yards per game. The defense was ninth best, holding opponents to 307.6 yards per game. Quarterback Tony Romo was third in the league with 4,211 passing yards and second with 36 touchdowns. The Browns look to build upon last year’s success when they were 10-6 but failed to make the playoffs. The Cleveland offense was eighth in total yards last season and quarterback Derek Anderson had 3,787 yards and 29 TDs. The problem last season for Cleveland was on defense but the Browns added nose tackle Shaun Rogers and defensive tackle Corey Williams in the offseason. "Everyone is excited that they're here," said linebacker Willie McGinest, "We know what they can do. They're very high-level players and should complement the guys that are already here." Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The two teams last met in 2004 at Dallas when the Cowboys won 19-12. The Cowboys are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in September. The Cowboys are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Browns are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 home games. The Browns are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games on grass. The Browns are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Browns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September. The Browns are 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 games in Week 1. SBG Global Current Line: Cowboys - 5.5 , Total 49 The Under is 4-0 in the Cowboys last 4 games overall. The Over is 5-1-1 in the Cowboys last 7 games in September. The Over is 13-4-2 in the Cowboys last 19 road games. The Under is 6-0 in the Browns last 6 games overall. The Over is 4-1-1 in the Browns last 6 games in September. The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to host the Houston Texans this Sunday, September 7th for their 2008 season opener. The game begins at 1:05pm ET and will be broadcast live on CBS. NFL Week 1 Picks at SBGglobal.com have the home team Steelers as a -6.5 favorite for the game. The Steelers finished last season at 10-6 largely because they dominated the AFC North, going 5-1 in division play. They will look to continue that trend this season and they have some new weapons to help them do it in running back Rashard Mendenhall and receiver Limas Sweed. The offense averaged 24.6 points per game in 2007; they should increase that number this year if they can cut down on the number of sacks allowed. The Pittsburgh defense ranked number one last year, but they desperately need safety Troy Polamalu to return to health and word is that he will not see much action to start the season. The Texans appear to have things going in the right direction under Head Coach Gary Kubiak. Last year the former Broncos offensive coordinator guided the franchise to its first eight win season. Unfortunately for Houston they play in one of the toughest divisions in football, so the playoffs may still be a couple of years away. They will make it interesting in the AFC South though, and the way they played last year will have the attention of their division rivals. Key Matchup: The Steelers will need to slow down the Houston passing attack if they are to cover the spread in this game. Last year they held teams to just 177 yards passing per game, but stopping Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter will not be an easy assignment. NFL Week 1 Trend: The under is 2-0 in the only meetings between these two teams. SBGglobal.com's NFL Week 1 Picks for the Texans vs Steelers: Texans +6.5, Over 43 (-110), +220 (Money line) Steelers -6.5, Under 43 (-110), -260 (Money line) Get on board for an entire season of NFL Picks; we are prepped and ready to storm through the 2008 NFL schedule. The Atlanta Falcons are coming off their worst season ever after their QB Michael Vick went to jail and their head coach walked away from the team. With a rookie quarterback and a new first year coach, the Atlanta Falcons are looking forward to their home opener against the Detroit Lions, Sunday September 7, at the Georgia Dome. NFL Oddsmakers at Looselines.com have the Detroit Lions as -3 point favorites over the Atlanta Falcons with the over/under set at 41 points. Get your NFL Picks: Atlanta Falcons vs Detroit Lions in now at Looselines.com
The Atlanta Falcons are simply hoping to progress from a disappointing season last year, they know they aren’t Super Bowl contenders. They tried three different quarterbacks hoping to replace Vick, but still floundered to a last-place finish in the NFC South winning only four games. To add to their recent woes was the departure of head coach Bobby Petrino after 13 games. Atlanta hired a new general manager Thomas Dimitroff and Mike Smith, the former Jacksonville defensive coordinator, to oversee the rebuilding project. That began with Matt Ryan, the No. 3 overall draft pick out of Boston College, who beat out Chris Redman for the starting job. Ryan threw for 4,507 yards and 31 touchdowns last year and was named the ACC's player of the year. If his arm isn’t any good he’ll have newbie RB Michael Turner and backup RB Jerious Norwood to help out on the ground. Turner was the former backup to LaDainian Tomlinson in San Diego. They’re lucky to be starting their season at home against Detroit.
The Detroit Lions started off great last year with a 6-2 record, but faulted at the end with a 7-9 record. They allowed a NFL high 6,042 total yards and 444 points under first-year defensive coordinator Joe Barry. The Lions offense is expected to be better this year after QB Jon Kitnas’ back to back 4,000 yard passing seasons. He’ll have his usual targets back in WR Calvin Johnson and WR Roy Williams. Their running game is new after they picked up former Bengals standout Rudi Johnson who will help out rookie Kevin Smith. Johnson had 1,300 yards rushing each season from 2004-06, but sat out five games last year with hamstring problems. The Lions were just 2-6 on the road last year, but they won their most recent visit to Atlanta
Recent Trends to Consider:
- Lions are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 1.
- Falcons are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- Falcons are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 home games.
- Under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
NFL Picks: Atlanta Falcons vs Detroit Lions When: Sun, Sept 7, 2008 1:00 PM ET Line: Looselines.com Pick: Detroit -3
Point-Spreads.com NFL Picks: Atlanta Falcons vs Detroit Lions Prediction – Detroit -3
The Bottom Line: Detroit has it going on with QB Kitna as well as two new runningbacks, one of which has already proven himself. Atlanta needs more time to get in gear.
