The final round for the 2009 FedEx Cup tees off, Thursday Sept 24, as five players in the field can take the FedEx Cup by winning this week’s THE TOUR Championship, at East Lake Golf Club. The FedEx Cup points will be reset following the previous weeks BMW Championship in order to give each of the 30 players who advance to THE TOUR Championship a chance to win the FedEx Cup title, depending on how the top five finish. Following THE TOUR Championship, the total points each player is awarded in the reset plus the points that player earns based on his finish at THE TOUR Championship will be added together, and the player with the highest point total will be named winner of the FedEx Cup and receive 10 million dollars. With a runner-up at The Barclays and a victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship, Steve Stricker jumped Woods for the top spot after two evens. Woods moved back into the No. 1 spot with a convincing eight-stroke victory at the third playoff event, the BMW Championship. Woods, the 2007 FedExCup Champion, has 13 top-10 finishes in 15 stroke-play events in 2009 and has six top-10 finishes at THE TOUR Championship in 11 starts. The last three times that Woods has teed it up at East Lake, he has finished second, second and first, respectively.

Steve Stricker – career best three victories and has 10 top-10 finishes in 2009. With two victories and eight top-10 finishes in the regular season, he enters the PGA TOUR Playoffs at No. 2 in the FedEx Cup standings. He tied for second at The Barclays and his third victory of the year at the Deutsche Bank Championship. The last time Stricker had a top-10 finish in THE TOUR Championship was 1998 when he finished tied for fifth.

Jim Furyk – is winless in the 2009 season, but has shown the importance of consistency when it comes to the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. With three finishes in the top 15 in the Playoffs, including a tie for second at the BMW Championship, Furyk moved from No. 16 at the start of the Playoffs to No. 3. Furyk is the highest-ranked player without a victory in 2009 thanks to nine top-10 finishes. In 21 events, Furyk has missed only two cuts this season. This will be Furyks 12th time playing in THE TOUR Championship where has two runner-up finishes (1996, 2006).
