The Virginia Tech Hokies will be waiting for the Canes arrival, but the reception will not be a warm one as the two teams vie for ACC supremacy. The Hurricanes jumped to No. 9 in the AP Top 25 this week after dominating Georgia Tech 33-17 in Miami. Head Coach Randy Shannon appears to have his program headed toward national prominence once again, and he will for certain if the Canes can get by Virginia Tech today. They will need a formula similar to the one they employed against the Yellow Jackets, which was to stop the run and force the quarterback to win the game with his arm. Josh Nesbitt could not get that done as Georgia Tech had just 228 total yards.

Offensively, Miami needs to just keep doing what they have been doing. Sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris has been masterful through two games, but he really played well last Thursday night. Harris completed 20-of-25 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns against the Yellow Jackets. The Hurricanes finished the game with 21 first downs and 454 yards.

Virginia Tech squeaked by Nebraska 16-15 last Saturday, getting a win in a game in which they were statisically dominated. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor had a less than spectacular day, but he got the job done when it counted most. Taylor led Tech on five play, 88 yard drive late in the fourth quarter that he finished off with an 11 yard touchdown pass to Dyrell Roberts. The Hokies had done little to that point and they finished the game with just 298 total yards and 11 first downs.

Frank Beamer's troops desperately need a win today in order to prevent a possible Canes runaway in the Coastal division. Miami has Oklahoma next week, but their schedule gets considerably easier after that as they face non-conference foes Florida A&M and UCF. Three of Miami's final five conference games are at home, whereas the Hokies must take to the road in five of their final eight contests.
