The Jayhawks got their first conference win of the season last weekend, beating unranked Iowa State 41-36 in Lawrence. The game raised several red flags for Mark Mangino's squad, all of them on the defensive side of the ball. The Cyclones, who will not be mistaken for an offensive juggernaut anytime soon, posted 512 yards and 26 first downs in the loss.

Kansas will need to improve and improve quickly on that side of the ball if they hope to stay ahead of Nebraska and Missouri in the division race. Fortunately for Jayhawk fans, the Kansas offense can score both quickly and frequently. The high-powered offensive attack is averaging 40.6 points and 518 yards per game this year.

Quarterback Todd Reesing is one of the best players in the country and receivers Kerry Meier and Dezmon Briscoe are, arguably, the best pass catching tandem in the nation.

The Buffaloes season slid further into the hole last Saturday as they lost 38-14 to the No. 3 Longhorns in Austin, Texas. The defeat dropped Colorado's record to 1-4 and got the Buffs conference season off to a rocky start.

However, inspite of the loss, Colorado's defense, which is giving up an average of 30 points and almost 400 yards per game this season, did hold Texas to 313 total yards in the loss. They will need a similar effort against Kansas tomorrow in order to have a chance at victory.
