Jailed Founder of BETonSPORTS, Gary Kaplan is considered a flight risk and was denied bail by a federal judge in Missouri this week. Meanwhile, former CEO David Carruthers remains under house arrest in a St. Louis hotel. The news of Kaplan being refused bail was expected by internet gambling industry observers.
Mary Ann Medler, a U.S. Magistrate, ordered that Kaplan be held pending his trial on racketeering conspiracy and fraud charges. Kaplan was caught with a Dominican passport and several different currencies at the time of his arrest in a Dominican Republic hotel back March.
BETonSPORTS Plc has agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors and are slated to provide evidence against Kaplan, Carruthers and all the other defendants that face a 22 count indictment.
Two co-defendants, Peter Wilson and Norm Steinberg, remain at large. Wilson's whereabouts are unknown at this time, however Norm Steinberg is currently residing in Costa Rica apparently immune to extradition.
