Gary Kaplan considered Flight Risk and Refused BailMagistrate Marcos Lopez considers BetonSports Founder Gary Stephen Kaplan a flight risk and will not be granted bail pending his transfer to Missouri. A U.S. federal judge ruled Wednesday that Kaplan should be extradited to the United States to face a 22-count criminal indictment.

Gary Kaplan was arrested March 28th, 2007 in the Dominican Republic and was brought to Puerto Rico pending his transfer to the mainland US from the island territory. Attorney Maria Sandoval has already stated that her client Gary Kaplan would seek to be released on bail after he is taken to Missouri.

BetonSports plc officials were indicted in July 2006 by a federal grand jury on various charges of racketeering, conspiracy and fraud. The indictment was unsealed back in July 2006 when the FBI picked up BetonSports CEO David Carruthers while he was on a layover between the UK and Costa Rica in the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. Carruthers is currently under house arrest at a hotel in St. Louis awaiting trial.

Two other BetonSports executives remain at large including Norm Steinberg and Peter Wilson. Earlier in the week, Point-Spreads.com reported that Norm Steinberg was still in Costa Rica. Several sources since then have come forward to confirm early reports on Gambling911.com that Steinberg has married a Costa Rican attorney which will allow him to avoid the fear of being extradited. Peter Wilson’s whereabouts are unknown at this time.
