Herschel Walker has won a Heisman Trophy and he is in the College Football Hall of Fame. But those accomplishments must not be enough. Saturday night, Walker, at 47 years old, will make his Mixed Martial Arts debut in the Strikeforce cage against Greg Nagy in Miami.
MMA oddsmakers at online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com list Walker as -330 odds favorite over Nagy and the round total (OVER/UNDER) at 6.5.
It was announced in September 2009 that Walker had been signed by MMA promotion Strikeforce to compete in their heavyweight division. After completing a 12-week training camp with trainer "Crazy" Bob Cook, at the American Kickboxing Academy California in San Jose, Calif., in October.
There are plenty of questions surrounding this match-up. Strikeforce needs Walker to succeed and in creating this matchup with the Hungarian born Nagy, it's assumed they have found someone Walker can defeat. However, Nagy has an edge in experience and is much younger. Walker has been training with some of the worlds best so after 12 weeks at AKA should be ready to go.
