UFC 94 Betting Odds

by Thomas Jensen on Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Point-Spreads.com is using a betting odds alert to make bettors aware that Georges St. Pierre is still holding steady as a -165 odds favorite for tonight’s welterweight title fight in UFC 94 betting odds posted by Sportsbook.com, but don’t tell that to his opponent BJ Penn. The American-born MMA fighter BJ Penn is is the current UFC lightweight champion.

“Moving to a higher weight class is a lot easier than having to move down a class,” stated Point-Spreads.com Publisher Thomas Jensen when asked to comment on UFC 94 betting odds for the GSP vs BJ Penn fight. “Penn loves the fact that no one is giving him a chance in this fight and will use this to focus.  I always like taking the money line dogs in these MMA fights and think BJ Penn at +140 odds is a great value bet.”

“I love to be the underdog,” Penn said. “I haven't been the underdog for a long time. Fighters who don't believe I can win this fight, it's simply because they don't believe in themselves, that they could go out and beat a great champion at a higher weight."

Georges St. Pierre is a Canadian-born fighter is considered the best pound for pound MMA fighter in the world.  GSP became the undisputed UFC welterweight champion this past April 2008 when be toppled MMA fighter Matt Serra and he won a unanimous decision in his last octagon visit against Jon Fitch in August 2008. His fight against Penn tonight is a rematch of a March 2006 fight that was a close, split-decision win by St. Pierre.

"The (GSP) fight is done," stated BJ Penn. "I wasn't living my life like a champion, so what happened in that fight is done and in the past. I can't really take anything from that fight. I feel we're two totally different people. I improved my will to prepare and I feel that's more important than any techniques he has learned."

BJ Penn has only stepped in the octagon two times in the last 12 months. In January 2008, Penn won the UFC lightweight championship by beating Joe Stevenson and in May 2008 he successfully defended his  title against Sean Sherk with a TKO in the third round.
