UFC 111: Frank Mir vs Shane Carwin Odds & Prediction Frank Mir is no stranger to the UFC octagon as the grizzled veteran looks for a third championship and another chance at Brock Lesnar.  Mir recently fought Cheick Congo at UFC 107. During the fight, Mir stunned Kongo with a left overhand early, dropping him and following up with strikes until securing a guillotine choke victory at 1:12 in the first round. Kongo refused to tap and was rendered unconscious by the submission. Mir has had hatred and long battle with Brock Lesnar. Lesnar and Mir first fought at UFC 81. Early in the first round, Lesnar took Mir down and, while striking from Mir's guard, landed illegal punches to the back of Mir's head, drawing a foul and a one-point deduction from referee Steve Mazzagatti. They were stood up and Mir was given a brief recovery period, but Lesnar quickly took Mir down again. When Lesnar escaped an armbar attempt, Mir caught him with a kneebar, causing Lesnar to tap out at 1:30 of the first round. Frank Mir fought Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 92 for the UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship. Mir won in the second round via TKO due to strikes, showing vastly improved striking (particularly his boxing), by knocking Nogueira down twice in the first round, and once in the second. He also scored a Judo-trip takedown in round one. Herb Dean stopped the match at 1:54 of the second round. Nogueira's loss to Mir marked the first time he had lost a fight by TKO. The winner of this fight would then face the winner of the match between the heavyweight champion Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar. Lesnar won by TKO in the second round, giving him the heavyweight championship belt. At UFC 100, Mir lost to Lesnar by TKO when Herb Dean stopped the fight at 1:48 in the 2nd round. Lesnar retained the UFC Heavyweight Championship title. Now a win over Carwin and Mir gets another shot at Lesnar to prove who is the best. Mir is great at submissions and has improved his striking.

Shane Carwin is currently undefeated in UFC, having finished all his fights in the first half of the first round . Carwin made his UFC debut on the undercard of UFC 84 against Christian Wellisch. He won the match by KO in 44 seconds in the first round. Carwin followed up with an appearance at UFC 89 against Neil Wain, winning by TKO in 1:31 of the first round. At UFC 96, Carwin took a major step up in competition when he faced former number one contender and renowned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ace Gabriel Gonzaga. Carwin scored a knockout via a straight right hand after 69 seconds of the first round. Carwin was supposed to fight Brock Lesnar for the title, but Lesnar had serious health problems and hasn’t fought since. Thus the fight with Frank Mir was set. Carwin has great striking capabilities and has great heart and determination.
